FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Fair Trade Beads Trunk Show Opens Holiday Spirit at Embellish

(Rocky River, OH - Oct. 20, 2009) With an eye to the unique, yet affordable, Embellish welcomes another Kazuri beads of Kenya trunk show on November 11 and 12, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

"Our customers appreciate finding one-of-a-kind pieces that become conversation starters when set in jewelry," said Laura Jacobs, owner of Embellish of 19055 Lake Road in Rocky River. "And knowing these beads are made by women of the Third World, shoppers feel good hearing the story behind these colorful works of art."

The Kazuri beads (a Swahili word for "small and beautiful") begin as clay dug from Mount Kenya. Women form the clay by hand into beads, which are painted with high gloss paint, then glazed to produce smooth, shiny decorated pieces.

The Kazuri project began in 1975 to help disadvantaged women of the Kikuyu Tribe. A missionary couple helped revive the traditional bead-making process of The Kikuyu, as a means of providing employment for women, who at the time were not allowed in the work force. Today, as a member of the Fair Trade Federation, Kazuri pays its employees three and a half times the national wage in Kenya.

Beads start at $2 each, and most are under $10. They come in a rainbow of colors and patterns, and make interesting accents as pendants, bracelets and earrings. Embellish held its first Kazuri beads trunk show this July, in conjunction with the store's third anniversary.

A preview night on Tuesday, November 10 from 5 to 9 p.m. will introduce the bountiful assortment of handmade beads and both Embellish and the Kazuri beads representative will raffle off prizes. RSVP is required to attend the preview night.

The November trunk show kicks off the holiday season for Embellish, a retail experience that helps customers create jewelry and other beaded treasures. Throughout the months of November and December, customers will participate in an assortment of gift making classes, including wire-wrapped serving utensils, Fine silver fingerprint charms, metal stamped bangles and Wired Angel pendants.

This year Embellish is also offering a Santa's Saver card. Every week between Nov. 1st and Christmas, Embellish will designate a jewelry project that can be made two for the price of one. Saver cards are offered free to customers.

Also, Embellish and fellow merchants of the Shops of Downtown Rocky River will host a Holiday Walk on Saturday, Dec. 5 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. "Candy Land" the popular children's game will come alive on the street, as merchants decorate the district. Shoppers are invited to participate in a scavenger hunt and day of family-friendly activities, including photos with Santa.
